Course Syllabus
WELDING I
Welding I is the study of Shielded Metal Arc Welding ( stick welding) and Oxyacetylene cutting and welding. We will also study welding symbols, blueprint reading, and how to minimize heat distortion. Students will learn to weld all types of welding joints in the flat and horizontal positions. Students will also learn all about welding safety and procedures.
There are 4 Units in Welding I

Graded Assessments: Class Participation, Lab Projects, Quizzes, Homework, and Tests will make up 80% of your grade. There will be a final exam or final project in this class. Which will make up 20% of your final grade.
Class Participation: This is a weekly grade that will be given based on behavior and effort in class discussions and labs.
Homework and Quizzes: Homework and quizzes carry the same grade value. I use quizzes to gauge how well students are understanding course materials. Then I will know if we need to spend more time on a specific unit.
Lab Projects: Lab projects grades are based on behavior and effort while performing the assigned lab.
Tests: Tests will be given on Canvas and will be true or false, multiple choice, or fill in the blank.
Late Policies on Homework: Homework should be done on time. It is very important to do these assignments so students are ready to participate in classroom discussions and activities! Occasionally responsible students will be allowed to turn these assignments in late without penalty because of personal needs.
Late Policy on Graded Assessments: Students will get two free late assignments without penalty. All other late assignments will lose 10 points per day for every day it is late.
Effort Participation Rubric:
96-100 Student goes above and beyond by helping a fellow student who is struggling. Or does more than is assigned or expected.
90-95 Student does what is assigned with good effort and uses safe shop practices.
80-89 Student does what is assigned but the effort, behavior, or safety were not what is expected.
60-79 Student requires prompting to get engaged in what is assigned or behavior and or safety were not acceptable.
0-59 Student constantly needs to be redirected and is not acting in a safe or acceptable manner.
I want each and everyone of my students to succeed in my class! I am also committed to making sure you get the most you can out of this class! If you are struggling in this class JUST COME FORWARD AND WE WILL GET YOU THE HELP YOU NEED TO SUCCEED!! I have the following goals for everyone in this class: you will get familiar with stick and gas welding procedures in all positions, you will also get practice with various cutting procedures and practices, we will learn how to read blueprints and understand welding symbols, and become proficient in the math skills needed to be a welder. THE MORE EFFORT YOU PUT IN THIS CLASS, THE MORE YOU WILL GET OUT OF IT!!
