Course Syllabus

                                                                      Welding II

Welding II is a continuation of what you learned in Welding I. You will get more in depth training and practice of Oxyfuel cutting and welding practices. You will  be required to cut out certain shapes with the cutting torches and will be graded on your performance. We will fabricate a steel anchor using SMAW to construct it. You will learn more techniques on how to minimize heat distortion. We will go over common repair procedures using SMAW to prepare you for your own repair work in the future. You will be introduced to Flux Core Arc Welding as well as Tig welding so you can see the difference between the various types of welding used in repairs and manufacturing.

There are 4 Units in Welding II:

Unit 1- Oxyfuel Gas Processes

Unit 2- Fabrication Using Shielded Metal Arc Welding

Unit 3- Common Repair Methods Using Shielded Metal Arc Welding

Unit 4- Introduction to Flux Core Arc Welding

Graded Assessments: Class Participation, Lab Projects, Quizzes, Homework, and Tests will make up 90% of your grade. There will be a final exam or final project  in this class.

Class Participation: This is a weekly grade that will given based on behavior and effort in class discussions and labs.

Homework and Quizzes: Homework and quizzes carry the same grade value. I use quizzes to gauge how well students are understanding course materials. Then I will know if we need to spend more time on a specific unit.

Lab Projects: Lab projects grades are based on behavior and effort while performing the assigned lab.

Tests: Tests will be given on Canvas and will be true or false, multiple choice, or fill in the blank.

Late Policies on Homework: Homework should be done on time. It is very important to do these assignments so students are ready to participate in classroom discussions and activities! Occasionally responsible students will be allowed to turn these assignments in late without penalty because of personal needs.

Late Policy on Graded Assessments: Students will get two free late assignments without penalty. All other late assignments will lose 10 points per day for everyday it is late.

Effort Participation Rubric:

96-100 Student goes above and beyond by helping a fellow student who is struggling. Or does more than is assigned or expected.

90-95 Student does what is assigned with good effort and uses safe shop practices.

80-89 Student does what is assigned but the effort, behavior, or safety were not what is expected.

60-79 Student requires prompting to get engaged in what is assigned or behavior and or safety were not acceptable.

0-59 Student constantly needs to be redirected and is not acting in a safe or acceptable manner.

I want each and everyone of my students to succeed in my class! I am also committed to making sure you get the most you can out of this class! If you are struggling in this class JUST COME FORWARD AND WE WILL GET YOU THE HELP YOU NEED TO SUCCEED!!  I have the following goals for everyone in this class: you will get more familiar with stick and gas welding procedures. You will be able to fabricate items made out of steel using the SMAW welding method. You will become familiar with common repair methods using this method of welding. You will also get introduced to Flux Core Arc Welding as well as Tig Welding. THE MORE EFFORT YOU PUT IN THIS CLASS, THE MORE YOU WILL GET OUT OF IT!!!!
